Bike to Work Day: Thursday, May 8

Bike-to-Work Day is held annually statewide to encourage bicycling as a non-polluting and healthy commute option.

In Oakland, Bike-to-Work Day is part of the city's strategy to promote cycling as affordable transportation, to improve public health, and to stop global warming. By cycling, you can: Reduce air pollution; stay healthy and fit; save money; and ease street congestion.

Ride for a Reason

Ride for a Reason, now in its sixth year, is a two-wheeled protest to advocate for more state funding for public schools, and a fundraiser for programs that support student creativity and a nurturing environment in six Oakland schools.

Our goals this year are 250 riders in Sacramento and $120,000 raised for six Oakland schools: Claremont Middle School; Edna Brewer; Emerson Elementary; Oakland International High; Oakland Technical High; and Westlake Middle School.

Once again, the Rockridge Masonic Lodge, Claremont Dads Club and Rockridge District Association (RDA) invite you to join us Saturday, April 26, at the historic Rockridge Masonic Hall for the 5th Annual Pancake Breakfast.

A hearty breakfast, including pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, fruit, coffee and tea, is generously donated and prepared by members of the Masonic Lodge. Four seatings are offered: 8 a.m., 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

RCPC Public Safety Meeting: Fighting Crime with Community Design: Discuss, Decide, Act!

This will be a highly interactive program exploring opportunities to reduce crime using tactics that could be deployed at the neighborhood level - from traffic circles and cameras in public areas to more creative options. The goal is to identify steps that could be a good fit for Rockridge and, if possible, pursue implementation.

The program will be facilitated by Gabe Kleinman and Virginia Hamilton.

Planning Begins for Telegraph Avenue Improvements with Online Survey

The city of Oakland is working to improve transportation safety and comfort on Telegraph Avenue between 20th and 57th streets for all modes of travel.

Building on past studies, the current effort will result in detailed concept drawings that will allow the city to seek grant funding for some of the improvements.

Public meetings to solicit your ideas and input are tentatively planned for March and July 2014.

The city is also taking initial input via an online survey until January 31 at http://ow.ly/rnTzr.
