Rockridge BART 'Safe Routes to Transit' Project Community Meeting, 9/30

The cty of Oakland is proposing improvements to bicycle and walking access to the Rockridge BART station. The Transportation Services Division will host a meeting Wednesday, September 30, 7:30-9 p.m. at the Rockridge Library to present preliminary project plans and to hear comments from Rockridge residents and business owners.

Oakland Caldecott Settlement Agreement Projects Coming Soon

This summer, residents will see construction of the first projects funded through an $8 million settlement agreement with Caltrans over the environmental impact documentation of the Fourth Bore of the Caldecott Tunnel. Improvements to Broadway between Keith Avenue and Brookside Avenue - including Oakland's first cycle-track (a two-way, separate bikeway) and pedestrian crossing enhancements - are slated to break ground in August.

The latest plans for pedestrian crossing, bikeway, lane configuration and related improvements on Broadway between College Avenue and Ocean View Drive will be presented by city staff Thursday, May 29, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Rockridge Branch Library community meeting room on the second floor.

Following review of a traffic study, plans are moving forward on the project, which is intended to improve safety in the corridor for all roadway users.

City: 'Soundwall Study Petition Falls Short'

The city of Oakland's year-long petition process to determine the expenditure of $1.4 million of Caldecott Settlement Agreement funds has come to a close, and the results indicate there is not sufficient support to continue with the studies. The process was developed to ensure that studying two soundwall segments along State Route 24 between Broadway and Telegraph Avenue has strong and widespread community support in the affected area.

As reported in the October 2013 issue of The Rockridge News, Oakland staff and consultants are well into designing many of the highest-ranking projects on the Caldecott Settlement project list. As detailed design of construction plans has unfolded, cost estimates have grown from the initial costs used to develop the list, in some cases significantly. The result is that fewer projects on the list will be funded than originally anticipated.

Broadway "Road Diet" and Crossing Improvements Set for Community Meeting November 18

Proposed designs for the Upper Broadway "road diet" and related intersection improvements funded with Caldecott Settlement Agreement funds are the topics of a community meeting to be hosted Monday, November 18 by Councilmember Dan Kalb"s office. The meeting, scheduled for 7 to 8:30 p.m., will be held at College Preparatory School, 6100 Broadway at Brookside Avenue. The meeting room is on the far right-hand side of the parking lot, facing the gym. Plans for the project area on Broadway between Broadway Terrace and Keith Avenue include:
