Coffee with a Cop

Saturday, April 9, 2016

Working for a safe Rockridge. Left to right: Sgt.Tim Martin, Sgt. Sean Hall, Community Resource Officer (CRO) Anthony Hutzol and Officer Paul Phillips all showed up for a "Coffee with the Cops" session held March 23 at the Rockridge Library. Look for Hall and Phillips as they patrol through Rockridge on OPD bike patrols. They will be joined in May by a walking beat officer who will patrol College Avenue full time. Similar assignments will be made in other Oakland business districts as well.

Meet Captain Darren Allison, OPD Area 2 Commander

Saturday, May 9, 2015

In "The Pirates of Penzance," Gilbert and Sullivan presented a view of law enforcement through the prism of doing one's duty, and turned duty into a burden:
"When constabulary duty's to be done,
"A policeman's lot is not a happy one."

Ask OPD Captain Darren Allison about that, and he has a ready answer: "I love my job!"

OPD Rotation Brings Back One-Time Area 2 Commander

Friday, October 3, 2014

I have transferred to command the Support Operations Division; Capt. Darren Allison is the new Area 2 commander.

This change is part of the Department's regular command rotation. Captain Allison was the area commander for North Oakland in 2008. He is eager to continue the good work we have started in Area 2. I know he will appreciate your support as we complete the transition.

I am proud of what we have accomplished over the last year and look forward to hearing about continued progress in the area of public safety in North Oakland.

Rockridge Branch Library Panelists:

Meet Captain Anthony Toribio, District 2 Area Commander

Saturday, October 12, 2013

Jutting up 10 stories above 7th Street and Broadway - and hard by the Nimitz Freeway - the Oakland Police Department Administration Building, known to those who work there as the PAB, presents an indecipherable gray wall of windows and panels to the street.

Before a seismic retroft several years ago, the building was fairly easy to enter through any of the several doorways dotting the sides and front of the ground floor. Now, many have been walled off; the doors remaining are sturdier, smaller and more foreboding. Several can be opened only by coded buttons.
