Caldecott Settlement Project Costs Coming in Over Budget

City of Oakland staff and their consultants are well along designing many of the highest ranking projects on the Caldecott Settlement project list.

Unfortunately, as the detailed design of construction plans has unfolded, corresponding cost estimates have grown from the initial costs used to develop the list, in some cases significantly.

Representatives from the Rockridge neighborhood, including Claremont Middle and Chabot schools, the City of Oakland Transportation Services Department, RCPC, Rockridge District Association (RDA), East Bay Bicycle Coalition (EBBC), North Hills Phoenix Association (NHPA), Fourth Bore Coalition (FBC) and consultants participated in the Oakland mitigation walking tour early in June.

The Fourth Bore Coalition (FBC) filed a lawsuit against Caltrans over its plans to add a fourth bore to the Caldecott Tunnel. In January 2009, the FBC settled its lawsuit under threat by Governor Schwarzenegger. The settlement included $3 million for air quality and noise mitigation for two Rockridge public schools immediately adjacent to Hwy. 24, Claremont Middle School and Chabot Elementary. The FBC is a coalition of local community groups in Oakland and Berkeley centered around Highway 24, including RCPC and FROG.

RCPC Annual Meeting and April Town Hall

The April RCPC Town Hall Meeting doubles as RCPC's annual meeting and election of Board of Directors members.  This year, there are five candidates running for six seats on the Board.  At the meeting, each candidate will give a short statement about themself and why they are running, followed by questions from the audience. 

March RCPC Town Hall - BART bikeshare Station and More

The City of Oakland Department of Transportation (OakDOT), BART, and Motivate will present the results of the public feedback received about alternative locations for the Ford GoBike bikeshare station at the Rockridge BART station on College Ave.  There was an initiial discussion at the January Town Hall meeting and a follow-up walk-through of alternative locations on February 22nd to gather public input.  The City will report on the results of that input and the proposed plans for moving forward with a permanent location for this central bikeshare location in Rockridge.

The planned design of two Caldecott Settlement Agreement projects will be presented by Oakland staff and consultants at an open house meeting set for Monday, April 18, 7-8:30 p.m. at the College Avenue Presbyterian Church, 5951 College Avenue at Harwood. Motivate, operator of Bay Area Bike Share, will also be at the meeting to discuss upcoming plans for new bike share stations throughout the Rockridge district, as part of a larger East Bay expansion (to learn more visit www.bayareabikeshare.com/expansion).
