College Avenue Commerce Decades of Service : Rockridge Furniture and Design

Monday, November 16, 2015

Established by John Knight, Sr., Rockridge Furniture & Design at 5601 College has been on the Avenue since 1970. John was an accountant by trade, but his passion was as an antique collector, repairman and salesman. The business evolved as his clientele's tastes began to support the Arts and Crafts furniture style more complementary to the many bungalows in Rockridge. Meanwhile, John Knight, Jr., who received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) at San Luis Obispo, was working in the software industry in Silicon Valley and spending too many hours in front of a monitor. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and about 1995, John Jr. was running the business his dad had started. John's engineering background was put to good use as he began designing and manufacturing furniture for the business with designs reflecting the construction techniques, workmanship and fine materials he had grown up with. John's philosophy, shared by his wife Diana, is that the manner in which we decorate the inside of our homes has a strong influence on how we feel, and is as important as the home's exterior appearance. You can feel that effect as you walk into the store at 5601 College Avenue. Be sure to ask John or Diana about the special design services they offer customers to help them achieve that goal.
