RCPC Town Hall: Hey, What's Shakin'? Earthquake and Disaster Preparedness

No one can say when or where the next earthquake or other disaster will strike, but everyone CAN be prepared. The RCPC November Town Hall presents resources for that preparation;

Jeff Morelli of CORE Oakland will give a brief overview of the CORE Training program with
handouts for further information.

Rockridge resident Carol Strickman, former CORE teacher and trainer, will speak on her experience as a neighborhood organizer and discuss the CORE I, II and III training levels.

Rockridge July Town Hall: Are You Feeling Parched? Drought and Remedies

RCPC takes a look at the whys and wherefores of the drought and remedies available now.

Join us and a panel of experts that will offer ideas of how to reduce your water consumption and whether the Bay Area should make these changes permanent as we look to the future. Bring your water bill along and share examples of your savings.

If you own a single family home, and plan on modifying it, selling it or buying another, learn what new building code requirements will apply to you effective January 2014. Water conservation is no longer just a voluntary idea.

Rockridge has gone through many changes over the years: having trolley cars on College Avenue; its own movie theater and a bowling alley; looking somewhat like a war zone while Hwy 24 and BART were being built; battling over highrise construction and large parking structures.

RCPC Public Safety Meeting: Fighting Crime with Community Design: Discuss, Decide, Act!

This will be a highly interactive program exploring opportunities to reduce crime using tactics that could be deployed at the neighborhood level - from traffic circles and cameras in public areas to more creative options. The goal is to identify steps that could be a good fit for Rockridge and, if possible, pursue implementation.

The program will be facilitated by Gabe Kleinman and Virginia Hamilton.

It's often said, "It takes a village to raise a child." Similarly, making one's village safe may be best achieved through collective effort.

Cuts at OPD have left us vulnerable. The police point out, correctly, they cannot do it all. Forming Neighborhood Watch groups is one way we can protect ourselves.
