Last month, the Oakland City Council considered elements of the General Plan 2045 Update, giving preliminary approval to many of the housing components. Councilmember Dan Kalb, representing Rockridge and North Oakland, introduced an amendment to the proposed height limit for potential future development at Rockridge BART, from a height of 175 feet to 100 feet (~ten stories tall), while increasing height limits in other nearby areas.

The Board of the Rockridge Community Planning Council analyzed the priority development sites and code changes included in the update in order to provide the below comment letter. Additional details of the General Plan Update appeared in the September 2023 edition of the Rockridge News. The City Council will vote on final approval of the updates early this month, with additional pieces of the General Plan 2045 Update coming during 2024 (see www.oaklandca.gov/topics/general-plan-update).
